Gopher women open in Puerto Rico
The Minnesota women’s golf team heads to Rio Mar this weekend to open up their spring season at the Puerto Rico Invitational.
The three-round tournament runs Feb. 24-26 at the Coco Beach Golf and Country Club.
Minnesota will be fielding a very young team, with the only upperclassman slated to compete being junior Paige Broman, a transfer from St. Olaf College in her first year with the program.
She will play alongside three freshmen and sophomore Christine Herzog, the only golfer playing in the tournament that has been with the Gophers for more than this year.
“Puerto Rico is one of those events where you’re competing against the best teams in the country,” director of golf Brad James said. “We’ll see where we stand nationally straightaway.”
