State of the AHC address today
Published February 19, 2009
Dr. Frank Cerra, senior vice president for health sciences, is giving the annual State of the Academic Health Center address on campus Thursday, which could tackle recent issues with ethical reform in the Medical School, budget issues and the restructuring of AHC leadership. The address comes after ethical concerns over financial relationships between the Medical School and the medical industry were raised last fall. Between 2002 and 2004, the UniversityâÄôs medical faculty received nearly $1.5 million from drug companies. In an attempt to reform the schoolâÄôs ethicâÄôs policy, Medical School Dean Dr. Deborah Powell drafted an ethics reform that is softer than the school’s task force previously recommended, according to reporting done by the Minnesota Daily. The address will take place in the Mayo Memorial Auditorium at 3:00 p.m., and will be broadcast to the Duluth, St. Paul and Rochester campuses. Check mndaily.com for more.
