Minnesota football player arrested

Gophers freshman defensive back Michael Carter was arrested late Sunday night and charged with obstructing the legal process and minor consumption, according to a University of Minnesota police report. Carter and fellow freshman teammate Kenny Watkins were trying to âÄúpick a fight with two passersbyâÄù outside popular campus eatery Mesa Pizza, the report said. When University police questioned the passersby, they confirmed the attempts to start a fight and proceeded to try to arrest Carter and Watkins. Watkins, who wasnâÄôt arrested, listened to the police, but Carter resisted. It took two policemen to arrest Carter. Upon arrest, one officer noticed the smell of alcohol coming from Carter. A breathalizer test showed he had a BAC of .055, according to the report. No action has been taken by the football team and team members were unavailable for comment according to University Athletics Communications.
