ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) âÄî Democratic lawmakers are proposing various changes to the state’s health care system that they say will save hundreds of millions of dollars and put a greater emphasis on health results. The proposed changes include refusing payment for medical errors, paying for 24-hour emergency dental and mental health services through clinics and discouraging what some say is an overuse of cesarean section deliveries. The proposal also calls for the expansion of “medical homes” where a doctor or nurse coordinates a patient’s care from multiple providers. Sen. Linda Berglin, a Minneapolis Democrat, says lowering the cost of the state’s health care system will eventually lead to health cost savings for all Minnesotans.
