Israel and Palestine’s uneven strength prevents fair negotiations

For a two-party negotiation to succeed, the two sides need to be approximately equal. When one side is totally dominant, as Israel is over Palestine, you get dictation, not negotiation. That is why ObamaâÄôs absurd comment at the U.N., âÄúUltimately, it is the Israelis and Palestinians, not us, who must reach agreement on the issues that divide them,âÄù was met with stony silence.
Support for Palestinian statehood by the leaders of countries such as France and Brazil received standing ovations.
Meanwhile, the world watches as a helpless American president fawns over the small country that holds his electoral mortgage. I canâÄôt believe that this president is the man I voted for.
