Man shot and killed in Cedar-Riverside following police standoff

A man turned a gun on himself after allegedly shooting and injuring another man in Minneapolis' Cedar-Riverside neighborhood Friday night, according to Minneapolis police.

Around 10:30 p.m., Minneapolis police arrived at the Riverside Plaza apartments at 1515 S. 4th St.  on reports of shots fired.

The officers found a man who had been shot. Paramedics transported him to Hennepin County Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Police found that the suspect had fled into the apartment building and had taken a woman hostage. The SWAT Team arrived and negotiated the release of the woman.

Following the woman's release, police deployed a robot into the apartment where it found the suspect unresponsive. Police determined that the suspect was dead, possibly from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner is expected to release the man's name and cause of death.
