Minnesota wasted no time gaining the lead as Emily West scores to put the Gophers up 1-0 only 28 seconds into the game. Brittany Francis and Sarah Erickson had the assists.
The Gophers lead 1-0 after one period. Minnesota is 0-3 on the power play, while St. Cloud is 0-2. Head coach Brad Frost talked this week about getting off to a good start, and the Gophers did just that. But since then, the teams have battling back and forth. The Gophers have a slight edge in shots on goal at 13-11. Sophomore Sarah Erickson scores her seventh goal of the season to put the Gophers up 2-0 almost three minutes into the second period. West and Mira Jalosuo had the assists. Laura May scores a unassisted short handed goal at 6:39 to put the Gophers up 3-0. May was able to steal the puck right beside the Huskies net and sneak it past the goalie Ashley Nixon. Minnesota adds to the lead in a hurry as Erickson puts one in to put the Gophers up 4-0 at 8:04. A string of penalties has slowed play toward the end of the second as the Gophers are playing shothanded trying to defend the shoutout. The Gophers go into the final period with a commanding 4-0 lead. Minnesota outshout SCSU 17-9 in the second. Erickson scored two goals in the period, her seventh and eighth of the season. Raty is looking for her second straight shutout as she blanks the Huskies with 20 saves so far. Both teams are 0-5 on the power play. Gophers stay undefeated as they beat St. Cloud State 4-0.
