Minnesota’s softball team improved their record to 5-2 as they swept North Carolina Thursday, by scores of 3-1 and 1-0.
Minnesota scored the first two runs of the first game when Erin Brophy’s double scored Michelle Bennett and Angel Braden. Bennett then doubled home Shannon Beeler in the sixth inning to ice the first game.
In the nightcap of the doubleheader, the Gophers scored the game’s lone run when Steph Midthun scored on a Tar Heels error. Steph Klaviter improved her record to 2-2 on the year with a five hit shutout. The game was called after six innings, due to darkness.
Minnesota will open play in the 1999 Triangle Classic with games against Campbell at 10 a.m. (EST) and Virginia at 4 p.m. (EST) on Friday.
