Gopher football recruit enrolling in junior college

After finishing the season ranked last in the Big Ten in total rushing yards, the Gopher football program spent much of the off-season looking for help at the halfback position. While Minnesota thought it found its answer with a four-star recruit from Texas, academic issues now have the Gophers without one of their top incoming players.

Hasan Lipscomb, from Cypress Ridge high school in Houston, Texas did not receive a high enough qualifying score on his college entrance-exam and will instead be enrolling in Blinn Junior College, located in Texas.

Lipscomb was ranked a four-star recruit by Rivals, and was one of three four-star recruits brought in by Coach Brewster for the upcoming season. This is the second time in as many years Minnesota has seen a top recruit not enroll because of academic issues.

Last year, quarterback MarQueis Gray was unable to play because of an entrance-exam issue, and was forced to delay his college career by one year. Gray finally began his Minnesota career this year, when he participated in spring practice.

In an email to the Pioneer Press, Lipscomb’s high school coach Gary Thiebaud says he hopes Lipscomb will eventually suit up for the Gophers: "He hopes to play for the University of Minnesota in the future," Thiebaud said. "He has to go the JC route first."
