Minnesota men’s basketball forward Kris Humphries has already notched one award.

The freshman was named the Big Ten player of the week on Monday.

Humphries averaged 23 points and 12.5 rebounds in the Gophers’ two games.

Minnesota is 1-1, defeating Missouri-Kansas City before losing to Utah in the second round of the preseason National Invitation Tournament last Wednesday.

“It would have been nice to win two games and get it,” the Chaska, Minn., native said. “We will have all the personal glory if we win games.”

Ballard, Wall honored

Minnesota men’s hockey defender Keith Ballard was named the WHCA men’s defensive player of the week, and Minnesota women’s hockey player Lyndsay Wall was named WCHA women’s rookie of the week, the conference announced Monday

Ballard recorded a pair of assists in Minnesota’s 6-2 triumph over Michigan Tech on Friday before racking up a goal and an assist in Saturday’s 3-0 victory. He also helped limit the Huskies to only 36 shots in the series.

Wall notched a goal and two assists in the Gophers 1-1 tie and 4-0 victory over Minnesota State-Mankato last weekend. Her goal came on the power play and was the Gophers’ lone tally in the tie game.
