I just got a wonderful offer from the National GuardâÄôs Sgt. Ben Pederson. He offered me free tuition and a $20,000 bonus to sign up. I declined. Gee, Sgt. Pederson, sounds pretty good, and I know we have a new president, but maybe letâÄôs wait until weâÄôre out of Iraq and out of Afghanistan and it looks like weâÄôre not going to go blundering into some other hell-hole full of would-be martyrs. I hope you find a new job soon that doesnâÄôt require you to lure young people to their death, dismemberment or disfiguration, because $20,000 and tuition is kind of low pay for that.
