Gophers head coach Tubby Smith said Tuesday that he has decided to redshirt Charles Buggs, one of his two freshman for the 2012-13 season.
Smith said he sat down with Buggs and his parents after Minnesota’s season-opening win against American on Friday. He said the 6-foot-8-inch, 198 pound freshman was OK with the decision.
The Gophers’ other freshman, Wally Ellenson suffered a broken hand last month and will still need at least six weeks to return. Smith said a decision will be made on Ellenson after evaluating his return from the injury.
