Dayton: security on alert after bin Laden death

Gov. Mark Dayton also congratulated President Obama and American troops.

Gov. Mark Dayton instructed officials to increase Minnesota’s public security measures Monday in the wake of Osama bin Laden’s death in Pakistan.

Dayton congratulated President Barack Obama and American troops for tracking down and killing bin Laden Monday in a statement issued released to the press.  Dayton referenced his own trip to Afghanistan in 2002 as a U.S. Senator, where he saw American intelligence services working to track down the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks.

“Finally, over nine years later, they have succeeded,” Dayton said.

Dayton ordered MinnesotaâÄôs Commissioner of Public Safety Ramona Dohman to strengthen MinnesotaâÄôs security in case of reactionary violence.

Bin Laden, head of al-Qaida, was gunned down at a compound in Pakistan by U.S. forces. Obama announced his death in a speech to the nation late Sunday night.

“Justice has been done,” Obama said.
