Women
Boasting the best throwers in the Big Ten, the Gopher women’s track team took second place at the Big Ten outdoor championships along with three titles and several NCAA qualifying performances.
But graduation hit hard as Minnesota lost champions Nicole Chimko and Beth Howard from its throwing dream team, as well as All-American runner Rasa Michniovaite and three time triple jump champion Christine Gulbrandsen.
Hoping to make the losses less prevalent are seniors Corinne Nimtz, an NCAA participant in the 10,000m and Aubrey Schmitt, who won her third consecutive Big Ten shot title this season.
Sophomore Amber Day has also become a top sprinter and essential member of the Gophers’ 4×400 relay as they broke an eleven year school record and placed on Minnesota’s top ten fastest finishes list.
And with second place at the Big Ten championships, the highest finish ever for the Gopher women, the only place left to go is first.
