Women’s soccer: Two Gophers earn first career weekly honors

Senior midfielder Molly Rouse and sophomore goalkeeper Cat Parkhill were named the Big Ten’s respective offensive and defensive players of the week on Monday, each player’s first career weekly award.

Among the highlights:

  • Rouse got in on the scoring bonanza during Minnesota’s 7-0 win over Belmont last Tuesday, then had a hand in nearly every goal the Gophers scored against UC-Santa Barbara and San Diego on their way to winning the Minnesota Gold Classic. She assisted Allie Philips’ game winner Friday against the Gauchos, assisted Shari Eckstrom’s team-high fourth goal of the season Sunday, then netted the winner against the Toreros when she got on the end of senior midfielder Katie Bethke’s out-swinging free kick.
  • Parkhill, meanwhile, recorded her first full-game shutout against UC-SB and allowed a lone goal late in Minnesota’s 2-1 win over San Diego.
