Gophers' point guard Rachel Banham was named to the 2011-2012 Full Court NCAA Division I Women's Freshman All-American First Team on Friday. She is just the second freshman in Minnesota women's basketball history to be named to a Freshman All-American team. The other was Laura Coenen in 1982.
Banham led the team in points, points per game, and three-point field goal percentage, among other offensive categories. She was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year following the conclusion of the regular season in February.
According to Full Court, the company is the "longest running provider of women's basketball coverage on the web." Kentucky's Bria Gross, Tennessee's Ariel Massengale, Connecticut's Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, and Duke's Elizabeth Williams were also named to the team.
