Minnesota made quick work of Florida Gulf Coast in its first game of the season and of the tournament hosted by Southern Florida.
The Gophers ran away with a 10-0 win, which ended in five innings, courtesy of an NCAA 8-run mercy rule.
Senior Brianna Hassett picked up where she left off from a season ago, going the distance and shutting out FGCU. She gave up just four hits on the night while striking out eight.
Minnesota still has a game to go tonight, as they’ll square off against the U. of North Florida in the nightcap.
