John McCain will be making a stop in Lakeville Friday for a free town-hall meeting open to the public. Though Minnesota is considered to be leaning toward Obama, according to the New York Times, the Arizona senator has been making an effort to win the state’s 10 electoral votes, most notably through his party holding the RNC in St. Paul. Minnesota has not gone for a Republican since Richard Nixon in 1972, the longest streak of any state, though recent presidential elections have been close. Democratic candidates have received no more than 53 percent of the vote here since 1988, and in 1992 and 2000 they only received a plurality of the vote. Expect the economy to remain the hot topic. A recent poll from CNN shows that 6 out of 10 American anticipate another economic depression, and the debates have focused much of their time on the economy. Mike Rose City editor
