Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton announced Monday that tomorrow, March 20, will be Gopher Women's Hockey National Champions Day. The Gophers defeated defending-national champion Wisconsin 4-2 in Sunday's NCAA Championship Game in Duluth, and claimed their first national title since 2005.
"Led by Coach Brad Frost, the Gopher Women demonstrated extraordinary determination, skill, and perseverance on their way to the school’s third National Championship in Women’s Hockey and its first since 2005, serving as a source of great pride for all people in the State of Minnesota,” Dayton stated in his proclamation.
A rally was held at Ridder Arena Monday afternoon to welcome Minnesota players, who returned to Minneapolis after spending Sunday night in Duluth.
