An active volunteer for more than 15 years, University alumna Audrey McGregor died of heart failure last Thursday in Arizona. She was 74.
McGregor was an important member of the Sun Cities, Ariz., chapter of the University’s alumni association.
The alumni association has chapters across the country to accommodate the nearly 30 percent of alumni who live outside Minnesota.
In 1999, the University awarded her the national Friend of the University of Minnesota Alumni Association Award. She served as a southwest U.S. representative for the association’s alumni board for six years.
According to the award announcement, McGregor served out-of-town guests visiting Arizona, developed and planned many events and served on the alumni association’s national board.
She was “always making herself available for any jobs that needed to be done,” her nominator wrote.
“(McGregor) is absolutely one of the most outstanding volunteers I’ve ever met,” said Margaret Carlson, head of the alumni association.
She combined spirit, substance and heart into her volunteer work, Carlson added.
McGregor’s death is a “huge, huge loss for the University and for volunteerism,” she said.
