Men’s tennis team hosting some of toughest competition yet

The Minnesota men’s tennis team plays just one dual this weekend, but it’s a big one.

The Gophers (2-9 overall, 0-0 Big Ten), fresh off a 4-3 victory over William & Mary last weekend, get the benefit of opening up their Big Ten slate by hosting No. 2 Ohio State at Baseline Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.

The Buckeyes are the two-time defending Big Ten Champions and enter the weekend with a 23-match conference winning streak.

Former Minnesota head coach David Geatz is currently in his first year as an assistant coach for OSU.

Men’s Wisconsin results
While the women’s track team was hosting, and winning, the Big Ten indoor championship, the men were competing in the conference tournament in Madison.

They took fifth place, with just one individual champion.

Ben Peterson won the pole vault by clearing a height of 17 feet, 1 3/4 inches.

Until this year, Peterson competed in just five meets, keeping him from showing his true potential.

He looked good last season, and even finished in the top five during the outdoor tournament. At the Jack Johnson Minnesota Invite, he finished in first place, leading all pole vaulters. This year, he will be one of the biggest point contributors in the outdoor season.

Another big contributor, Ibrahim Kabia, took second place in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.67 seconds. Kabia was named second team All-Big Ten this week. His time automatically qualified him for the NCAA Indoor Championships.

The Gophers finished with 77 points in the two day event, 50 points behind first-place Wisconsin.
