A true example of Islam

Education is definitely not the main issue being debated in the upcoming elections in America. Neither are women’s rights. However, across the world in Pakistan, these very issues have been brought to focus by a recent incident. As the Taliban began to burn down girls’ schools in northern Pakistan, a young girl, Malala Yousafzai, gained international recognition by highlighting the Taliban’s atrocities on a BBC blog. One week ago, Malala was attacked by the Taliban while traveling back from school. Most people consider the Taliban to be an Islamic extremist group. I, as a Muslim find nothing Islamic about burning down schools, or preventing women from getting educated. The true example of Islam in Pakistan can be found in Malala. As Prophet Muhammad taught, “Seeking knowledge is obligatory for every Muslim man and woman.”
