Following a five-point weekend, Gophers senior Tony Lucia was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association’s offensive player of the week.
In the opening game against Alaska Anchorage, Lucia totaled three points by way of two short-handed goals and an assist. The two short-handed goals were the first two of Lucia’s career, the first two-goal game of his career, and the first by a Gopher since Mike Carman had two short-handed goals nearly three years ago.
In the second game Lucia added two more points on a goal and an assist, concluding his stellar five-point weekend.
Lucia’s five-points on the weekend are also tops on the team heading into this weekend’s series against No. 18 Wisconsin.
This weekend all three weekly winners will square off, as Lucia will play against defensive player of the week Brendan Smith and rookie of the week John Ramage.
