Friday: Bruise Violet “Trophy Wife” EP Release Show
Minneapolis teenage hard rock trio Bruise Violet is releasing their newest EP, entitled “Trophy Wife,” this Friday. Opening acts include best new band Sass, and best old band Catbath. Come for the openers, and stay because everyone will be rocking this record over the summer.

Saturday: “A Century of Women Filmmakers”
The Trylon microcinema is the best place to see movies in the Twin Cities, hands down. They use real film and the space is comfortable. It’s privately run, and this weekend they’re showing movies made by women dating back to 1916. The event runs all weekend and will include movies like “American Psycho” and “Desperately Seeking Susan.”

Sunday: Nancy’s Raygun, Cheap Fantasy, Sauna Accident and Dahlheimer
Nancy’s Raygun hasn’t played a show in a while. Last year they took a hiatus and focused on other projects. This year marks their big return with new and old material. New electro rock project Cheap Fantasy and garage blues rockers Sauna Accident are opening with the kids in Dahlheimer.

Watch this: “The Boss Baby”
I’ve been waiting about a year to see this movie. I’m not a huge animation fan, but the premise of a talking baby who is a boss to professionals sounded cute. It is. It isn’t deeply emotional like Pixar or instantly classic like old Disney flicks, but it’s self-aware enough to let the jokes breathe.

The perennial high school electro pop band Passion Pit isn’t as good as it once was. Beset by band members’ personal issues, the music has sat at an impasse — until now. “Tremendous Sea of Love” is definitely a step in the right direction for a resurgence to Passion Pit’s former glory.
Catch up on this: “Big Little Lies”
“Big Little Lies,” which wrapped its seven episode arc Sunday, is one of the best new television shows. The HBO drama follows the lives of a group of Monterey, California mothers living double lives while exploring themes of isolation, loneliness, sex and marriage. The excellent cast and subtle writing make this another entry into the impressive HBO canon.
