Police arrested a 23-year-old University alumnus late Monday night for assaulting a 19-year-old man with a baseball bat, according to University police.
Around 10:45 p.m. Monday, the alleged victim told University police that an acquaintance had struck him with a bat. He had visible wounds on his arm, University police Chief Greg Hestness said.
While he was still with police, a vehicle passed that the alleged victim recognized as containing the man who hit him, police said.
University police stopped the vehicle near Melrose Student Suites and arrested the University alumnus for assault with a dangerous weapon.
Because the assault involved a weapon, the case has been submitted for potential felony charges with the Hennepin County District Attorney’s Office , Hestness said.
No charges have yet been filed.
Hestness was not sure how severe the injuries were, but he said the alleged victim was transported to a hospital Monday night.
The alleged victim could not be reached for comment.
