The women’s rugby club team recorded victories in both of their games at the Division II Midwest Sweet Sixteen Tournament in Milwaukee, Wisc., this weekend.
The wins qualify the team for the Midwest Final Four tournament on Nov. 6th and 7th in Champaign, Ill. A win in Illinois would send the team off to nationals.
On Saturday, the ruggers recorded a 19-5 win over Loyola. Sunday’s championship game brought the Gophers up against Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Despite homefield advantage and several Minnesota injuries, the Wisconsin team could not stop the powerful Gophers team. The final score in that game was a close 24-17.
The women’s rugby club is reaching heights that have not been in visited since the late 80s, the last time it made it this far.
