Minnesota swimmer Terri Jashinsky and hockey player Shannon Kennedy were honored by the women’s athletics department at the Berg Awards Banquet on Monday.
Jashinsky, a senior, earned the Big Ten Medal of honor, the highest award given by Big Ten schools for excellence in academics, athletics and leadership. The kinesiology major finished her Gophers career with two all-Big Ten honors and 12 NCAA All-America honorable mentions. She will compete this summer at the U.S. Olympic Trials.
Kennedy, a hockey player, earned the Senior Athlete of the Year award, which is voted on by athletes in the women’s athletics department. As a co-captain with the Gophers, Kennedy helped lead the team to the first national team title in the history of the women’s athletics department.
Kennedy, an education major, was also selected the WCHA Student-Athlete of the Year.
