Gophers sophomores Ashley Wittman and Tori Dixon have been named to the All-Big Ten volleyball team.
Wittman was one of seven unanimous selections in Tuesday’s release. She ranks second in the Big Ten with 4.52 kills per set while hitting .242. Her 31 kills in Minnesota’s 3-2 loss to Penn State on Nov. 4 were the most of any Big Ten player in a match this season.
Dixon ranks third in the conference with a .361 hitting percentage, and sixth with 35 aces. She totaled 315 kills and 99 blocks — both second-best on the Gophers.
This is Wittman’s first honor, while Dixon was an honorable mention selection last season. Both players were named to the Preseason All-Big Ten team.
Purdue’s Ariel Turner collected the conference’s Player of the Year honors, while Boilermakers’ coach Dave Shondell was named Big Ten Coach of the Year.
Penn State’s Katie Slay is the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year — an award Minnesota senior Jessica Granquist captured last season. The Nittany Lions’ Micha Hancock took home Freshman of the Year honors.
