The first weekend of the outdoor season proved successful for both the Minnesota men's and women's track and field teams. Although the Aztec Invitational in San Diego was canceled before completion due to rain, the field athletes still made enough of an impact to earn Big Ten conference awards.
Senior thrower Trey Davis won both the shot put and discus throw over the weekend to earn Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honors. His 17.68-meter shot put ranks him sixth in the nation. His 54.01-meter throw in discus ranks ninth. This marks Davis' first Big Ten outdoor award.
On the women's side, senior DeAnne Hahn also won Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week. She won the hammer throw at the Aztec Invitational with a throw of 60.04 meters. Her throw is currently first in the Big Ten and seventh in the nation. Hahn is now second on Minnesota's all-time record list. This was also the first Big Ten outdoor award of her career.
The men's track team competes again this weekend in the Arizona State Invitational. The women will not compete until March 30-31 at the Arkansas Invitational.
