Barriball to have surgery; officially out for season

by Max Sanders

After getting the results of an MRI scan late last night, it was announced in a press release today that forward Jay Barriball will undergo season-ending knee surgery Friday.

Head coach Don Lucia suspected the injury would end Barriball’s season when he addressed the injury during yesterday’s press conference, and after receiving MRI’s confirming the scope of the damage it was announced Barriball’s season is now over.

The senior played in five games this season, meaning he will have one more year of eligibility remaining should he decide to return for the 2010-11 season after using a medical redshirt on the rest of this season.

Surgery is set for tomorrow and Lucia said yesterday recover time is estimated at four to five months.

Minnesota will travel to Madison, Wisc. to face No. 18 Wisconsin in a two-game series beginning Friday at 7:07 p.m.
