Former student admits to theft

Hennepin County prosecutors charged a former University student Tuesday with stealing money and merchandise from Gray’s Campus Drug.
Matthew D. Falk, 23, worked for the Dinkytown drugstore for about two years, according to the complaint.
Albert Platt, owner of the drugstore, noticed last year that large sums of money and merchandise were missing from the store. Platt hired extra security, and Falk was observed taking merchandise in a bag and exiting the store without paying for the goods.
Platt declined to comment to the Daily about the charges.
Falk admitted his involvement in the incident to a private investigator and to a Minneapolis police officer, according to the complaint.
Falk faces up to ten years in prison, or as much as $20,000 in fines or both.
No warrant has been issued for Falk’s arrest. Falk was last registered at the University during spring quarter 1996.
