Sophomore goalie Noora Raty was named WCHA defensive player of the week after helping the Gophers to a sweep of Minnesota State last weekend.
Raty, the WCHA goaltending champion last season, stopped 54 of 56 shots as the Gophers climbed back into the top half of the WCHA standings. This is the second time she’s won defensive player of the week honors already this season.
After shutting out Sweden at the Four Nations Cup tournament the weekend before, Raty posted her fifth shutout of the season Friday night, helping the Gophers to a 1-0 win.
Raty kept the Mavericks off the scoreboard for the first two periods the following day, as the Gophers built a 4-0 lead. She allowed two goals in the third period, but the Gophers held on for a 6-2 victory.
Raty and the Gophers take on Harvard tonight at 6:00 P.M. and Sunday at 1:00 P.M.
