Single-game men’s hockey tickets on sale Saturday

The University of Minnesota Men’s Athletics Department has announced that a limited amount of single-game hockey tickets for the upcoming 2001-02 season will go on sale by phone only on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 9 a.m.

Tickets will be limited to two games per household at the rate of four tickets per game.

The cost of the single-game seats are $25 per ticket for reserved seating and $22 for reserved standing room tickets, with the exception of the tickets for the Mariucci Classic, which are $30 per ticket for reserved seating and $27 for reserved standing room tickets.

Any remaining tickets will be available for purchase online at www.gophersports.com after 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13.

Any remaining tickets will also be available for purchase in person or over the phone during regular ticket office hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) beginning on Monday, Oct. 15.

There will be no limits imposed for orders placed online, in person or over the phone after 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13.

Fans may call (612) 624-8080 or 1-800-UGOPHER to purchase tickets. Fans may also utilize the University of Minnesota Athletics Website at www.gophersports.com to purchase tickets and for ticket information on all Gopher sports.

Zharinov qualifies

University of Minnesota sophomore tennis player Aleksey Zharinov qualified for the main draw of the All-American Tournament in Atlanta. Zharinov defeated UAB’s Andre van der Merve, 6-4, 7-5. The All- American Tournament runs from Oct. 11-14.

Zharinov lost in the final round of pre-qualifying on Monday after winning four consecutive matches. He received word that he was selected as a “lucky loser” just as he was preparing to board a plane back to Minneapolis. Zharinov then won two matches in the past two days to qualify for the main draw.

The native of Novosibirsk, Russia, will join fellow Golden Gopher Thomas Haug in the tournament. Junior Harsh Mankad was scheduled to compete in the event as well, but will miss the tournament to participate in the Davis Cup.

Mankad will compete for India in its match against the United States in Winston-Salem, N.C., Oct. 12-14.

Barn Lofts remain

The University of Minnesota Men’s Athletics Department has announced that Barn Lofts are still available for purchase in Williams Arena for the upcoming men’s basketball season. Barn Lofts with 14, 18 and 22 seats are available on a single game or season basis. For a single game, the price for a loft ranges from $1,500 to 2,500.
