No charges in alleged sexual assault near campus

There was no evidence the reported crime occurred, police said.

No charges will be filed in a sexual assault reported near campus earlier this week, police said Wednesday.

There is no evidence a crime occurred, police spokesman John Elder said.

A 25-year-old woman reported being assaulted at an off-campus apartment early Monday, according to a police report. The apartment was rented to at least three University of Minnesota athletes, who were listed as neither suspects nor witnesses in the report.

“Those mentioned have done nothing wrong, they are not suspects and they have been extremely helpful to law enforcement in this case,” Elder said.
