Institute of Technology explores name change

The University of MinnesotaâÄôs Institute of Technology may celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2010 with a name change. The Institute of Technology is the UniversityâÄôs college of engineering, mathematics and physical sciences âÄî but its moniker doesnâÄôt make that clear, Dean Steven Crouch said. And that presents a challenge when it comes to recruiting new students and helping them find jobs. Crouch said he wants a name that better reflects the collegeâÄôs composition âÄì a name that will make its departments easy to find. Crouch announced in a mid-December e-mail to institute faculty and staff that he would explore the possibility, and would commission the Carlson School of ManagementâÄôs Brand Enterprise program to assist.
