U aims to break world record for flu shots

On October 28, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., the University of Minnesota will aim to break the Guinness World Record for most flu shots given in one day. The current record is 3,271, set in Florida in 2006. Dave Golden, public health and marketing director for Boynton Health Service, said the University could exceed the 10,000 mark if turnout is high enough. Golden said the University consistently has days in which they distribute over 2,000 flu shots, but Boynton staff was looking for a more innovative way to get higher turnout. Flu shots will be free for students and staff. There will be four sites where people can get the shots during next weekâÄôs record-setting attempt, including the Northrop Auditorium Plaza and the St. Paul Student Center. Golden promised people would get âÄúspecial edition flu cookiesâÄù and Guinness World Record stickers if they participate.
