Injured Gophers seniors receive academic recognition

Senior wide receiver Eric Decker and senior center Jeff Tow-Arnett, who have both sustained season-ending injuries, have earned Academic All-District selections from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the university announced on Thursday.

Decker, who sprained his left foot at Ohio State on Oct. 24, and Tow-Arnett, who broke his leg against Wisconsin on Oct. 3, are both eligible to be selected as Academic All-Americans by CoSIDA, according to the release.

Decker earned a degree in business marketing education with a 3.41 undergraduate grade-point average.  Tow-Arnett, who has a 3.79 grade-point average, is expected to graduate in December, also with a degree in business marketing education.

Gophers head coach Tim Brewster said on Oct. 27 that the team was hopeful to have Decker and/or Tow-Arnett back for a potential bowl game.  Four days later, Decker announced that he would have surgery this week to repair a sprained left foot, and that he was expecting a full recovery within eight months.

To be eligible for academic honors selected by CoSIDA, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least sophomore eligibility and have at least a 3.3 grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale)
