A full day of deliberation was not enough for a jury to decide whether Antonio Burton raped two female University students during an October 1996 break-in.
After two weeks of testimony, the case went to the jury Wednesday morning in Hennepin County District Court.
But as of 6 p.m. Wednesday, a decision had not been reached. Jurors were sequestered in a Minneapolis hotel, and deliberation will continue this morning.
In his closing arguments Tuesday, defense attorney Joseph Margulies asked the jury to find Burton guilty of burglary and robbery charges, but contended that another man committed the rapes.
Prosecuting attorney Steve Redding said either DNA evidence or witness testimony are enough to convict Burton of rape.
Burton is the last of four men implicated in the incident to face charges.
