The Minnesota volleyball team jumped from No. 9 to No. 8 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association rankings.
The Gophers are coming off a solid Big Ten opening effort last weekend in which they beat Wisconsin 3-0 by scores of 25-15, 25-16 and 26-24 and then took down Iowa in straight sets by scores of 25-14, 25-14 and 25-18.
The rankings leap was also due to Nebraska falling from No. 6 to No. 10 after losing to No. 2 Texas in four sets in Nebraska. The Gophers now find themselves ranked above the Cornhuskers who beat Minnesota in five sets in Omaha in the second game of the season.
No. 8 is the highest ranking the Gophers have held since September 20, 2008 when they were also ranked eighth.
