Civil engineering junior Midori Drake said she filed her taxes over spring break. âÄúI did them online,âÄù Drake said. âÄúThey were really easy.âÄù Drake said she plans on going shopping for some summer clothes when she gets her refund.
Jon Gill, English as a second language graduate student, said he filed his taxes in person, through a tax service in early February. Gill said he will use his refund money to take a trip with his family to Kyrgyzstan âÄî a country in central Asia âÄî where he will be teaching English.
Electrical engineering junior Lee Saythong said he will wait until the last minute to file his taxes, as he does every year. Saythong files his taxes himself and plans to spend the money when he gets his return.
Alee Yang, accounting first-year, said she filed her taxes in January for free through the governmentâÄôs website, which she uses each time. Yang said she got her state refund within a few days and the federal refund within a week. Yang said she spent the money on a birthday party for her friend and went shopping with the rest.
Math junior Joe Troszak said every year he gives his mother the relevant information and this year he included his property tax information because he is renting. Troszak said his mother filed the taxes in March and he is still waiting on his return, which will go back toward his rent. âÄúItâÄôs a vicious cycle,âÄù Troszak said.
