Despite a rough weekend at home, the Gophers volleyball team remained in the Top 10 of the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll for a fourth consecutive week.
Minnesota fell from No. 9 to No. 10 in Monday’s poll after losing to then-third-ranked Illinois in five sets Friday and defeating unranked Northwestern in four sets Sunday. The Gophers are now 8-3 on the season, 1-1 in the Big Ten, and 3-1 at home.
Illinois moved up to No. 1 for the first time in the AVCA poll’s 30-year history. The Illini followed up their 20-25, 25-18, 25-22, 20-25, 15-10 win over Minnesota with a sweep of unranked Wisconsin.
The two teams ranked above Illinois last week — California and Stanford — each went 0-2 over the weekend.
Other Big Ten teams in the AVCA Top-25 include Nebraska (No. 7), Penn State (No. 9), Purdue (No. 12), Michigan (No. 17), and Ohio State (No. 24).
The Gophers will travel to Ohio State on Sept. 30 and Penn State on Oct. 1 for their first two road matches of the season.
