Man beaten and robbed on West Bank

A 22-year-old man was victim of armed robbery and assault on the West Bank Plaza in front of Anderson Hall early Saturday morning. At approximately 2:30 a.m., a group of four to six males approached the man and punched, kicked and hit him with a metal pipe. The assailants made off with the victimâÄôs watch and car keys, according to a crime alert e-mailed by University police. The victim fled to Augsburg College after the attack, where campus security transported him to the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview. The victim was released after receiving stitches. All suspects in the attack were described as East African males, approximately 18 to 22 years old, wearing baggy clothing. One suspect was described as being approximately 6 feet tall, with a light build, and wearing a dark hat and brown or tan multi-square coat. A second suspect was described as 6 feet tall with a light build and wearing a black wool coat. A third suspect was described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a stocky build and wearing a dark brown hooded sweatshirt. University police Chief Greg Hestness said that although surveillance equipment was running at the time, it did not capture any images of the suspect or the victim.
