MarQueis Gray wonâÄôt be part of the Gophers football program this season, the University announced in a release Monday . Gray, considered the teamâÄôs top recruit for the class of 2008, participated in the beginning of fall practice with the Gophers before his college entrance exam scores were flagged . Gray plans to enroll at the University spring semester , according to the release. âÄúIâÄôm confident that I can clear up my situation this fall and IâÄôm excited to rejoin my teammates at Minnesota,âÄù Gray said. His scores were flagged by the ACT after he was already admitted to the University, according to a report in the Star Tribune last week. The issue was handled by the NCAA Clearinghouse . A four-star quarterback from Indianapolis , Gray had scholarship offers from several other Big Ten schools and was rated 2007âÄôs third-best dual-threat quarterback in the country by Rivals.com . Head coach Tim Brewster said before the season that he had not decided whether he would redshirt Gray, who wouldâÄôve competed for playing time with quarterbacks Adam Weber, Tony Mortensen and David Pittman . If he does return next season, he would likely compete with Pittman for the backup spot behind Weber. âÄúWe look forward to having MarQueis back with the Gopher football program soon,âÄù Brewster said.
