Shaka Smart, a leading candidate to replace Tubby Smith as the Gophers men's basketball coach, has agreed to a contract extension with VCU, SI.com's Pete Thamel reported Wednesday, citing a source with direct knowledge of the situation.
The deal will pay Smart $1.5 million per year until 2023, according to the source.
Gophers athletics director Norwood Teague hired Smart to coach at VCU in 2009. He and Gophers associate AD Mike Ellis worked with Smart at VCU from 2009-12.
