Freshman linebacker Bradley Vance and freshman running back Marion Barber III were both named to The Sporting News’ Freshman All-America teams this week. Vance made the first team while Barber was a third team choice.
Hornby tops in Canada
Minnesota rower Beth Hornby was named 2001 Rowing Canada Aviron Sculler of the Year. Hornby won the gold in the under-23 lightweight women’s double and a bronze in the lightweight women’s pair at the Canada Cup.
Mankad ranked second
Minnesota’s men’s tennis player Harsh Mankad is ranked second in the nation in the latest ITA Tennis Rankings.
Mankad finished the fall season 12-1 and won the National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships. He is the highest ranked player in school history.
