Friday Music âÄî Gay Beast, The Blind Shake, Kitten Forever The beauty of the 331 is that shows are always, always free. This is particularly exciting when the bands playing are good, as is the case with this Friday night. Gay Beast brings the weirdly wonderful, The Blind Shake spin out their Michael Yonkers-inspired psychedelia and Kitten Forever kick out some of the best punk rock jams around. This show is a steal. 331 Club 331 13th Ave. N.E. 10 p.m. Free Saturday Music âÄî Ween Every song Ween writes is so different from the last that it makes it hard to describe their sound. It can be bizarre, catchy, raucous or poppy, which makes their live show a grab-bag. It could be fantastic or it could be too strange for comfort, but the risk is worth the reward. Roy Wilkins Auditorium 175 Kellogg Blvd. W 9 p.m. $28.50 Sunday Food/Music âÄî Gastro Non Grata: Vagabond Vacation Not only is there an insane musical lineup âÄî Birthday Suits, Private Dancer and Guystorm, among others âÄî thereâÄôs also tons of delicious food, which includes Sea ChangeâÄôs unmatched seafood. Gluttony goes best with a little rock âÄònâÄô roll. First Ave. 701 1st Ave. N. 5:30 p.m. $12/15 Culture to Consume Read this: Mark Binelli gets intimate with Jay-Z, the man he calls âÄúKing of AmericaâÄù in the latest issue of Rolling Stone. In the profile, we are able to see Hova in a less demigod-like, more humanistic light. Listen to this: The Roots are a busy group of dudes. They rock âÄúLate Night with Jimmy FallonâÄù on weekdays, play shows on weekends and somehow found time to record a new album, âÄúHow I Got Over.âÄù We all knew they were talented, but damn; theyâÄôre making every other band look lazy by comparison. Watch this: A recent misadventure through TargetâÄôs young adult book section showed me the terrible state of vampire fiction in America. I thought it was just Stephenie Meyer books, but apparently there are a host of terrible novels featuring brooding vamp-bros and helpless damsels. Instead, get your vampire fix by watching HBOâÄôs âÄúTrue Blood,âÄù which returned last week. It may not be the greatest of vamp fiction, but thereâÄôs a whole lot of sex, a whole lot of killing and very little sparkling, which puts it well above its contemporaries. Drink this: The Aster Cafe has reopened and now features tea-infused cocktails that you canâÄôt find anywhere else. Try a Jalopy: ItâÄôs Jameson, lemon solstice tea and ginger beer âÄî the perfect drink for those hot summer nights. Check out our Aster Cafe story for more details. Eat this: IâÄôve been frequenting Dinkytown for quite a few years now, but until last week I had never tried The LibraryâÄôs Monday night tacos. It is now my mission in life to spread the taco gospel, so I say to you: Go, eat, be merry. Click this: Cats have countless reasons for sucking, but dogs have just one: The fact that they die. This video is for anyone who has ever wanted their pup to live forever. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-qkNEampEA
