Minnesota (5-2) won the Clarion Inn-vitational in Cedar Falls, Iowa, this past weekend, but dropped a five-set match to unranked Kansas. The loss was the Gophers’ first against an unranked opponent since Nov. 5, 2010.
Minnesota also defeated No. 15 Northern Iowa in five sets at the tournament.
Seven Big Ten teams rank in the AVCA Top 25, including No. 3 Illinois and No. 5 Penn State. The Illini went 3-0 at their weekend tournament to remain undefeated, while the Nittany Lions (4-3) lost to top-10 opponents Stanford and Texas.
Texas, which the Gophers swept at home Sept. 2-3, moved up two spots to No. 8 in the poll.
