Just a few days after a trophy game win over Iowa, the Gophers football team got some bad news.
Freshman wide receiver and kick returner Marcus Jones will miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL, according to head coach Jerry Kill.
Jones did not play in SaturdayâÄôs win over the Hawkeyes. He has nine receptions for 142 yards this season.
âÄúHe will not play the rest of the season, and heâÄôll have surgery here soon,âÄù Kill said. âÄúHeâÄôs doing well. And I think heâÄôll bounce back off the surgery pretty well because of the type of kid he is. HeâÄôll work hard. IâÄôm cautiously optimistic heâÄôll be ready to go in the spring.âÄù
Jones was the teamâÄôs starting slot receiver and kick returner prior to the injury and is currently 18th in the nation in average yards per kick return with 28.5. He returned a kickoff for a touchdown Oct. 8 against Purdue.
Kill said Devin-Crawford Tufts âÄî who had 100 receiving yards Saturday âÄî and Brandon Green will see increased playing time in the wake of JonesâÄô injury.
