HOUGHTON, Mich. (AP) âÄî Ryan Stoa and Tony Lucia each scored one goal and goalie Alex Kangas had 21 saves as Minnesota shut out Michigan Tech 2-0 on Saturday to clinch a home-ice playoff position. The Gophers won with defense, which hadn’t been their strength recently. Minnesota (15-12-7, 12-11-5 WCHA) had given up at least four goals in each of its past eight road games. But Kangas came up big, particularly in the final minute. The Huskies (6-23-7, 2-19-7) had a power play and extra attacker but were unable to score. Rob Nolan had 23 saves for the Huskies. With the win, Minnesota clinches the fifth and final home-ice position in the conference playoffs. The Gophers will host either St. Cloud State or Minnesota Duluth in a three-game series starting Friday.
