Minnesota women’s hockey head coach Brad Frost announced the hiring of Joel Johnson as an assistant coach Tuesday. Johnson was an assistant with the Gophers from 2000-2004, including their 2004 NCAA championship run.
Johnson spent the last six seasons at Bethel University in St. Paul, including the last three as the head coach.
“I’m extremely excited to be coaching again at the University of Minnesota,” Johnson said in a statement. “The program has a tradition of excellence and I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with such a great staff and group of student athletes.”
Johnson will be replacing Jamie Wood, who spent the last two seasons with the Gophers and recently took a job as an associate head coach with New Hampshire.
